“Resonance” of Borders Artist on the edge of Edinburgh

May sees PCAA open it’s doors to the work of MJ Illingworth, Borders-based contemporary artist. His solo exhibition “Resonance”, is an opportunity to see and buy original paintings that are inspired by sound.

In a era when it’s so easy to capture everything you see with a digital camera, “Illy” offers a contrasting opportunity to see things in abstract vivid motion on canvas. He taps into the feeling you get when listening to music, and brings out a captivating movement and emotion in his use of colour. If you want to see art that brings walls to life, this is not to be missed!

MJ Illingworth is a member of The Society of Scottish Artists, and his exhibition runs from 4 to 31 May at Penicuik Community Arts Association, 4 West Street, Penicuik (Open Mon to Sat 10-4).

This season vibrant works by “Illy” are exhibited at the Tower Gallery,  Kirriemuir. 

Other artists include Allan Paris with his digital phone art, Fiona Haldane, Jim Dewar, John Stoa, Sonja Benskin Mesher, Michelle Duffy, Brian Petrie, Jackie Gardiner to name a few.

And if you didn’t know, Kirriemuir is the Birthplace of author and playwright JM Barrie, creator of Peter Pan.

New York Exhibition, New Edinburgh Exhibition, New Peebles Exhibition, New Kelso Exhibition…Illy is looking for more exhibition venues for 2008. With Saatchi votes growing, and commissions on the increases it’s time for MJ Illingworth to open up to the wider audience.

Freeze this year, Frieze next year!

Locked in the studio with more new work on it’s way soon, the music to canvas cross-over artist will break through the barrier of predominant template painting styles - “an artist’s creativity should never be constrained by following one style; it only allows an artist to stay in a safe place and not push or challenge the artistic possibilities.” Illy
